All Terrain Remote Controlled Car Race

RSET organizes the second Indo-German Industry-Academia Summit, on "Eco-Technological and Digital Solutions for Smart Cities" adjunct with our Flagship International Conference "Green Buildings and Sustainable Engineering, 2019" (GBSE 2019) during 19-20 February 2019. The Summit will be attended by experts from German Universities, Indian and Indo-German Industries, who develop products and services for Smart Cities, as well as delegates from the national and local Government institutions.
There will be an Exhibition of the already developed products and services of different industries during the event and will present their latest Eco-Technological and Digital products, which could be integrated to Smart City Kochi.
RSET has already established a Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (IoT) in collaboration with an Indian Industry and is currently planning to develop a special purpose autonomous vehicle in Collaboration with Indian and German Industry and academic partners. Recently we established a Center of Excellence in Smart City Technologies, in collaboration with Indian and International academia and industries (STEAG), which would like to take initiative in designing a curriculum for Master Degree in Technology (M.Tech) in "Smart City Technologies".

Concept of Grand Challenge

Rajagiri Grand Challenge 2019 is for development of mobilize governments, companies, and foundations around to address vital issues. Through this program, RSET, Public and Private partners bring in new voices to solve Eco Technological & digital glitches for smart cities. They source new solutions, test new ideas, and scale what works.

Specific feature of Grand Challenge

The Challenge is to develop a robust All Terrain vehicle system with obstacle avoidance capabilities for operation in different types of Terrains in least time possible. It should be able to keep to the track closely whilst overcoming all potential obstacles. With this new approach, the students should be able to enhance the vehicle performance and vehicle safety in different terrains. The system should be implemented in a large tracked vehicle with slow dynamics with safety being a major concern. It must be a cost effective model and have perfect output in almost all terrains.

Vehicle Specifications
The battery voltage must not exceed 12 V
The weight of the car must be limited to 4 kgs
The car must fit in a rectangle of size 30 cm X 25 cm (length X breadth)

  • Participants must report to the venue with their machines
  • Strict inspection of the car is carried out according to the guidelines and regulations set by the organizers
  • All selected teams will be given practice slots of 10 minutes each


  • All selected teams will have to compete in the time trial
  • Each team will be given a run of a single lap and the top nine best lap times will be shortlisted for the freestyle race
  • If at-least two of the cars goes out of the track, ten seconds will be added to the time taken by the team
  • If one of the wheels goes out of the track 3 seconds will be added to the total time


  • Three rounds will be conducted to shortlist three final contestants
  •  If at-least two tyres of the car goes out of the track, the car has to start from the previous checkpoint
  • The fourth round will be between the final three cars


  • The RC car must be wirelessly controllable
  • No petrol or diesel engines can be used
  • Every contestant must have sufficient battery back-up, i.e. at least three batteries
  • One hour charging time will be provided. Only plug points will be provided.
  • Maximum of 6 students per group.
